West End’s “West Fest” is coming….

WHAT IS WEST FEST?

West Fest is brought to you by WEND, the West End Neighborhood Development Inc.and includes an annual benefit concert, festival, and tour, The concert kicks off the weekend of events with performances by Elliot Holden and Avery Sunshine. The concert’s purpose is to raise money and bring residents and friends of the community together. Proceeds from the concert and tour will benefit WEND, and will be used toward beautification and preservation of our historic neighborhood. The West End Tour of Homes consists of a self-guided walking tour of over a dozen craftsman, vitcorian, & queen anne style private homes. The large majority of buildings in the district are houses constructed from about 1870 into the 1930s. The festival and artist market will kick off with a dog parade, feature local artists, face painting, a live DJ, and The Men of Valor steppers from Brown Middle School.

Tickets for the Benefit Concert are $25 • Tickets for the Tour of Homes are $15, or $35 for a combo Concert + Tour pass. Tickets can be purchased onlineat www.atlantawestfest.com. Admission to the Festival and Artist Market is free.

Westview Community Garden: Confirmed

Thanks to the hard work of the Westview Community Organization, Westview was granted permission to lease a vacant lot on South Gordon and convert it to a community garden.

As per the President ” my plan is to have individual beds that are 4 x 12 feet in size.  The cost per bed per year will be between $15 and $20 depending on the number of gardeners we get to participate.  Our biggest expense in the first year will be getting the water turned on, amending the soil and purchase of a lawn mower.  The cost per bed will be to ensure that we get the right tools to begin our project.”

MARTA

A second resolution approved by the Council announces the City of Atlanta’s support for Ride MARTA Day,which will be held March 26,2010. On Ride MARTA Day, Metro Atlanta residents are asked to show support for MARTA by riding it. On the 26th there will be a 3pm press conference at the Five Points MARTA Station as well.
