Westview Community Garden: Confirmed

Thanks to the hard work of the Westview Community Organization, Westview was granted permission to lease a vacant lot on South Gordon and convert it to a community garden.

As per the President ” my plan is to have individual beds that are 4 x 12 feet in size.  The cost per bed per year will be between $15 and $20 depending on the number of gardeners we get to participate.  Our biggest expense in the first year will be getting the water turned on, amending the soil and purchase of a lawn mower.  The cost per bed will be to ensure that we get the right tools to begin our project.”

Kudos to Mr. Mitchell (lot owner) for your willingness to assist in the redevelopment of our communities!

How To Create A Rain Barrel

..this is what I need to do. A few of my neighbors have created some unbelievable systems and have big plans. Plans beyond just watering roses- but actually connecting them to their bathroom toliets  for ‘flush’ water…. I admire you guys. Right now, I just need to water my tomatoes before I have another failed crop.

The department of watershed has step by step instructions for creating one here:

I’m excited, maybe there is hope for my garden this year.

Hello neighbors and friends,

Spring is almost here and the Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program of CVC Urban Farms will be back in full swing shortly. We are busy now preparing the land for planting and will be selecting varieties of vegetable and fruit crops soon for the next season.

Please join us for a short gathering this Sunday to help make plans for the year. We would like input from our subscribers from last year, as well as those that would consider getting fresh, affordable locally grown food weekly this season. Items we will discuss include pricing, service hours, and the new Brown Middle School site.

New CSA subsciptions will be on sale at the meeting, with disctribution of food beginning April 12th, or earlier (depending on how fast the ground warms up). Feel free to forward this message and invite others to attend. We look forward to seeing you on Sunday. –
