Hello neighbors and friends,

Spring is almost here and the Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program of CVC Urban Farms will be back in full swing shortly. We are busy now preparing the land for planting and will be selecting varieties of vegetable and fruit crops soon for the next season.

Please join us for a short gathering this Sunday to help make plans for the year. We would like input from our subscribers from last year, as well as those that would consider getting fresh, affordable locally grown food weekly this season. Items we will discuss include pricing, service hours, and the new Brown Middle School site.

New CSA subsciptions will be on sale at the meeting, with disctribution of food beginning April 12th, or earlier (depending on how fast the ground warms up). Feel free to forward this message and invite others to attend. We look forward to seeing you on Sunday. –

Creating Vibrant Communities Inc

Hello neighbors and friends,
Below are the plans for construction of raised beds this Saturday May 10th in Plot “A” at the new CVC Urban Farm located at 779 Atwood Street SW Atlanta, GA 30310 in the greater West End (also known as the Beecher-Donnelly neighborhood). This initiative is part of CVC’s new Urban Agriculture Program, which was launched in response to the NPU-T Community Food Project. Please come by to be a part of this historic event and reach out to as many West End residents and NPU-T neighbors to invite them as well. Contact Robert Thompson (CVC Executive Director) to register as a participant at 404.399.3790 or rlthomp2002@yahoo.com. 8AM shift of volunteers:
  • Will focus on laying out garden bed outlines with wooden stacks and strings. Involves basic surveying with measuring tape and some earth leveling (process described here). Garden beds will be both cement block bordered (examples attached) & earth mounded designs.
  • Laying down newspaper within beds for weed suppression
  • Brush removal and general landscaping around the site
11AM shift of volunteers:
  • Actual construction of mounded garden beds, cement block raised beds, and filling with blended topsoil mix.
  • Adding beginning organic fertilizer amendments (chicken pellets or fish emulsion)
  • Summer crop planting and garden bed irrigation
Lastly, we need everyone to bring as many old newspapers and gardening tools as possible, including:
  • Gardening hoes
  • Metal rakes
  • Shovels
  • Gloves
  • Trowels
Many thanks. Please reply if you have any questions. – Kwabena
