What’s going on in West End…Westview?

…many new developments.

Westview collected money for their street toppers. This is very exciting! Now you will see “Westview” when driving through their community and no more mistaking their homes for West End homes ūüôā I know the neighbors are very proud. I’m very proud and have happily contributed to the purchase of a street topper.

Westview will also have a community BBQ on May 3rd (you can stop in West End for the tour of homes, and continue to Westview to eat!) ‘It’s Our Neighborhood’ community association is coordinating this.

Trees Atlanta will begin their Beltline Arboretum planting on Saturday April 12th

Visit http://westviewatlanta.com/  for more information. The developers of this site do an awesome job of maintaining it.

West End will kick off the summer with a wonderful May Day/ Tour of Homes celebration starting May 2-4th.  The celebration will kick off with a concert  at the Wren’s Nest Amphitheater 7-10PM featuring Jazz artist  Theresa Hightower (www.theresahightower.com). Tickets are $25.  You can also buy a single concert and tour of homes ticket combo for $40! Check out (http://atlantawestend.com/myjoomla/content/view/46/72/ )

You dont want to miss the tour- come out and see the¬†lovely historic homes of West End. There are some on the list that have all the orginal detailing and others beautifully renovated. Experience the old and new! Besides viewing owned homes, we have and are making arragements to have the available (For SALE) homes open this day! Now you’ll be able to obtain buying information onsite and possibly begin the process to owning within our community ūüôā

Now on the NPU-T front. Did you miss it? … the foreclosure screening?¬†¬† If you did, you missed a special treat.¬† We had a great time at our NPU-T meeting yesterday. With over 100 people in attendance, council members, civic leaders and neighbors from NPU-V- the debuteof “When a House Is Not A Home”¬† was a success!¬† Brent and Paulette did a wonderful job and provided us with a very nice catered menu after.

Kudos go out to many neighbors that are volunteering their time and have been accepted into the Policy Institute for Civic Leadership:

“When a House is Not a Home”

Come out to the¬†NPU-T meeting this Wednesday at 7PM to view this special presentation on the effects of foreclosure by West End residents Paulette Richards and Brent Brewer of Ayamedia Productions. It is “the story of how the neighbors in Atlanta‘s Historic West End got educated, empowered, and engaged in reclaiming their neighborhood”
As per NPU-T chair, Kwabena NKromo:
“The NPU-T meeting will be held in the Shrine of the Black Madonna‘s main auditorium this month to accommodate the additional guests expected for the¬†film and to benefit from a theatre size screen to view the documentary. This venue is right next to our usual meeting place¬†(Founders Hall) and there will be signs indicating the entrance. Lastly, there will be a light food buffet provided for attendees’ enjoyment after the screening. All are welcome.”¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†

Feds Charge 19 With Mortgage Fraud

Federal prosecutors announced 19 indictments Monday in a mortgage scheme that stole nearly $13 million in home equity and victimized more than 100 home owners.
Under the scam, home owners facing foreclosure were promised lower home payments and cash up-front if they agreed to add another name to their home’s title. The victims were led to believe they were paying rent to the investors to give them time to get their affairs in order, according to officials.
Prosecutors say the scam was headed by Charles Head of La Habra, Calif. Prosecutors say additional indictments are likely as they continue investigating.
In all, prosecutors say Head defrauded 115 financially strapped home owners in 22 states of at least $12.6 million. The fraud began in and continued through 2006.
Victims ranged from first-time home buyers to the elderly and cost 90 percent of the victims their homes, said Assistant U.S. Attorney Ellen Endrizzi.
